Apple introduces a 21.5″ iMac with 4k resolution. The screen has 4096×2304 pixels, bringing the pixel density to 218 ppi. The new iMac will be equipped with Intel Broadwell CPUs with Iris Pro GPU. An extra graphics card is not included to the possibilities.

The new model does not have a newer Skylake processor, but copies of the Broadwell generation. There is a choice of a Core i5 processor with a speed of 3.1Ghz and turbo boost to 3.6Ghz, or a Core i7 clocked at 3.3Ghz and boost to 3.8Ghz. Based on the stated clock speeds, Apple supplies the new iMac 21.5 “with the Intel Core i5-5675R or Intel Core i7-5775R. There is a choice of 8GB or 16GB lpddr3 memory.

Apple probably prefers the Broadwell CPUs over the new Skylake processors because of the integrated GPU. The Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 is more powerful than the GPU of the Skylake desktop CPUs and Apple does not provide the new iMac 21.5 “with a discrete graphics card.

The resolution of the IPS panel is 4096×2304 pixels. That is a 16:9 variant of the dci 4k resolution, which prescribes 4096×2160 pixels. Apple probably opts for the different resolution because the pixel density corresponds exactly to that of the iMac 27 “with 5k screen. That resolution was already mentioned in a rumor about the new iMac.

In the basic version, Apple stops a traditional HDD with storage capacity of 1TB. A Fusion Drive SSD with 1TB or 2TB capacity is available at an additional cost. You can also choose 256GB or 512GB flash memory.

The Apple iMac 21.5″ with 4k screen is available immediately, prices start at 1729 euros. There are also new models with full-HD screen with Broadwell processors. The more expensive of the two full-HD models has a Core i5 with Iris Pro GPU, the cheaper one has to make do with HD Graphics 6000. The price of the cheaper version starts at 1279 euros, the more expensive with full-HD screen is 1529 euros.

In addition to the new 21.5″ iMac, Apple is announcing refreshed accessories. The Apple Magic Keyboard, Apple Magic Mouse 2 and Apple Magic Trackpad 2 have been redesigned with a lower profile angle and feature a built-in rechargeable battery. Trackpad 2, like the recent laptops from Apple, has Force Touch technology.Apple charges 149 euros for the Trackpad 2 and 89 euros for the Magic Mouse 2.

Apple is also revamping the 27″ iMacs. The models with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels have been phased out, the large iMac is now only available with a 5k screen. Apple supplies the 27″ iMacs with a Core i5 or i7 processor of the Skylake generation and a Radeon R9 M380, R9 M390 or R9 M395 GPU for a price from 2129 euros.
