Rumor: Apple 21.5″ iMac with 4k resolution available October 13

Apple will probably introduce an iMac with 21.5″ screen next week with a resolution of 4096×2304 pixels. According to rumors, the all-in-one should be in stores from October 13.

9to5mac reports that the new 21.5″ iMac does not differ in appearance from the current model. The site bases its message on multiple sources; 9to5mac often brings authentic news about Apple products before the official announcement. In the beta of OS X El Capitan already published references to a screen resolution of 4096×2304 pixels earlier this year.

That resolution deviates slightly from the 4k standards; for example, the uhd standard prescribes 3840×2160 pixels and the dci 4k standard has a resolution of 4096×2160 pixels. Apple seems to be opting for a 16:9 variant of dci 4k. Presumably, the manufacturer does this to arrive at a pixel density of 218 ppi, which corresponds exactly to that of the 27″ iMac Retina.

In addition to a higher screen resolution, a processor and GPU upgrade is expected. Apple supplies the current 21.5″ model, which has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, with Intel Graphics or an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M with 1GB of video memory. To control the extra pixels, there will probably be options for more powerful graphics cards.
