Motorola has announced which smartphones will receive an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is striking that the Moto E 2015 is missing from the list, while Motorola promised at the introduction that the budget smartphone would remain up to date.

On its blog, Motorola announces for which models an update to Android 6.0 is planned. The second and third generations of the Moto G and Moto X are on the list, but the Moto E 2015 is missing. That is striking considering that this device was introduced on February 25 of this year and Motorola explicitly promised in the introduction video to continue to provide the device with updates.

In the video, Motorola’s marketing manager Magno Herran says: “While other smartphones in this price range don’t always get updates, we won’t forget you and we’ll make sure your Moto E stays up to date.”

AndroidPolice notes that the fine print with the promotional material of the Moto E 2015 states that the smartphone will receive at least one update. The device came with Android 5.0 and has since been updated to Android 5.1. That promise has actually already been fulfilled by Motorola, but probably users of the device had hoped for longer support.

It is not yet known when Motorola Android 6.0 will roll out to the devices that do receive the update. The manufacturer says it wants to do this quickly, but not to rush. More information about release dates should be announced in the coming weeks.

Motorola will no longer bring some of its Moto Enhancements to the latest Android version. This includes Moto Assist, which offers the same functionality as the ‘Do not disturb’ option that is now in Android 6.0. Motorola Migrate is also disappearing, as Android Marshmallow has improved support for backing up user data.
