Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing is a platform written for distributed computing and available for Linux, Mac OS X, Unixen, and Windows. A number of large distributed computing projects make use of this platform, such as rosetta@home† SETI@home and ClimatePrediction.net† For more information about the how and what of Boinc, we refer you to this page† The developers have released a new unstable version with 5.9.5 as the version number for Linux and Windows, and strangely enough, the version number for Mac OS X has been fixed at 5.9.6.
