WatchOS 2 rollout for the Apple Watch has begun

After a few days of delay, Apple has started rolling out watchOS 2. The new software for the Apple Watch includes native apps that run on the watch itself. The previously planned release was delayed due to a bug.

The software can be downloaded over-the-air via the Watch app. Because such a rollout is always phased, it can take some time before the update reaches everyone. Manual search is possible by pressing ‘software update’ in the settings in the Watch app. The software is approximately 12MB in size.

WatchOS 2 brings expanded Siri support, directions, photo watchfaces, and native apps to the wearable. Native apps make it possible to run applications directly on the smartwatch, so this does not have to be done by the connected iPhone. In addition, developers get more direct access to the sensors.

Actually, the release should have taken place last week, but at the last minute it was decided to postpone it. Apple had found a bug that had to be fixed first. Exactly what error was in the operating system for the smart watch has not been disclosed.
