Samyang releases 21mm and 50mm system camera lenses

The South Korean lens manufacturer Samyang releases two bright lenses especially for system cameras. The 21mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC and the 50mm f/1.2 AS UMC CS are available for Sony E, Canon M, Fujifilm X and Micro Four Thirds from Olympus and Panasonic.

The lenses are intended for system cameras with aps-c sensor and are not equipped with an autofocus motor. But because practically all system cameras are equipped with focus peaking, manual focus is not a big problem. In addition to the versions for photography, Samyang also comes with two versions especially for film makers, the 21mm T1.5 and 50mm T1.3.

The 21mm f/1.4 lens features eight lens elements in seven groups with three aspherical lens elements and an extra low dispersion element. UMC in the product description stands for ultra multi coating and is intended to prevent flare and ghosting. You can focus on objects that are at a distance of 28 centimeters or more. The minimum aperture is f/22 and the aperture consists of nine blades. The filter size is 58 millimeters and depending on the mount, the lens is between 64.3 and 67.9 mm long and 64.3 mm in diameter. The weight is around 290 grams.

The 50mm f/1.2 variant with a minimum aperture of f/16 and focus distance of 50 centimeters consists of nine elements in seven groups, two of which are aspherical with ultra multi coating. The filter size is 62 millimeters and the whole measures around 7.4 centimeters in length, depending on the mount, and 67.5 mm in diameter.

The video versions of both fixed focal length lenses feature T-marks, allowing precise focusing. Due to the serrated edge, follow-focus systems can be used.

The lenses will be available from mid-October. The 21mm and 50mm variant for photography changes hands for 430 and 480 euros respectively. The video lenses will then be available for 470 or 520 euros.
