The European Commission has announced that it will invest 1.5 billion euros in an EU research and innovation program for the period 2018 to 2020. The hope is that the public and private sector in the EU will increase their investments in research into ai.
The amount of up to 1.5 billion euros in the coming 2.5 years will be invested in Horizon 2020, the largest research and innovation program in the EU. The Commission therefore hopes that an additional amount of 2.5 billion euros will be made available in the context of existing public-private partnerships, such as in the field of robotics. Ultimately, this should lead to a joint investment from the public and private sector of a total of 20 billion euros to 2020.
