Canonical Releases Ubuntu Core 20 With Secure Boot And Disk Encryption

Canonical has released Ubuntu Core 20. The lightweight version of the popular operating system is primarily intended for internet of things and integrated devices. The most important changes are in security.

Ubuntu Core 20 is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and is now generally available according to the makers. The version includes secure boot and full disk encryption. There is also an app store in the OS that allows users to download standard Ubuntu apps. According to Canonical, most new features revolve around security, for example because snaps are in containers and hardware roots-of-trust are possible.

Ubuntu Core 20 is certified for most known x86 and Arm singleboard computers. The operating system is mainly intended for iot applications or in embedded systems. Canonical says Ubuntu Core is now running on tens of thousands of devices. The new release will receive support for at least ten years.
