Rumor: HTC is working on a round smartwatch

HTC is said to be working on its first smartwatch. That reports Android fan site Phandroid. The smartwatch would have a round screen with a resolution of 360×360 pixels and run on Android Wear, but further details of the smartwatch are not yet known.

The watch’s code name is said to be “halfbeak,” the name of freshwater fish in the halfbeak family. Other Android Wear watches and Nexus devices are invariably codenamed fish, Phandroid notes.

HTC has previously had a smartwatch in development, but decided to cancel its release. In the field of wearables, the manufacturer announced the Grip earlier this year, but HTC postponed the release that would take place this summer. The manufacturer did promise to come up with more wearables later this year.

When the watch should come out exactly, what hardware it will contain and how much it should cost, is still unknown.
