Chrome OS 72 also brings Google Assistant to third-party Chromebooks
The latest beta version of Chrome OS also makes the Google Assistant available on Chromebooks from other manufacturers. Until now, the Assistant was only on ‘Made by Google’ devices, such as the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate.
Chrome OS 72 is a major update to the platform. From Android 7 Nougat, the Chromebook is immediately updated to Android 9 Pie; Oreo is skipped. One of the biggest innovations is the native integration of the Google Assistant, which means that the digital butler is now also available on third-party Chromebooks. According to 9to5Google, the Google Assistant welcomes the Chromebook user with three possible actions: “Play music,” “What’s on my screen?” and ‘What can you do?’
Just like on the smartphone, the questions to the Google Assistant can be entered both spoken and typed. Chrome OS 72 also makes it possible to install the Google keyboard Gboard from the Play Store, allowing the user to personalize the keyboard with themes, quick access to Google Search and the translation functions of Google Translate.
The stable version of Chrome OS 72 is expected to be released at the end of January.
