Speedlink releases Competition Pro Extra joystick for Android and Windows
Speedlink will release a new version of the Competition Pro joystick in January 2019 for 29.99 euros. The manufacturer provides a download code for twenty games with the joystick, including Summer Games, Aquanoid 2 and Bomber Warrior. The code only works for Windows.
Speedlink reports that the Competition Pro Extra has a USB-A plug that supports USB 1.1 and has a polling rate of 125Hz. The controller can be used without installation software for PCs and Android devices and is suitable for retro games other than the included games. In order for the Competition Pro Extra to work on devices running Android 5 and later iterations, users will need an OTG cable. This is not supplied with the joystick.
The original Competition Pro was used for the Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari XL and ST. The included games of the new joystick have appeared for the first time on the mentioned platforms. It is not the first time that Speedlink has re-released the Competition Pro joystick. The company released a version of the joystick in 2004 with a nine-pin D-sub plug connection. Six years later, a version with a USB connection was launched. Included is a CD-ROM with 99 C64 games. In September 2017, Retro Games Ltd. a C64 mini console with a Competition Pro joystick out.
