Blizzard has transferred some members of the Heroes of The Storm development team to other projects. The developer believes that these currently have higher priority than HotS. Additionally, Blizzard has canceled scheduled esports tournaments for the game in 2019.

Director J. Allen Brack and lead developer Ray Gresko report via Blizzard’s website that HotS development continues, but with a smaller team. That team will continue to design new characters and host in-game events. The reason why developers have been transferred is due to the large amount of projects within Blizzard.

“We now have more live games and unannounced projects than ever before. We have now reached the point where we need some of our talented developers and their skills on other projects. As a result, we have had to make the difficult choice to select a few developers of Heroes of The Storm to other teams.”, Brack and Gresko stated in the message.

It is unknown which developers have been transferred and which projects they will be working on. One of the announced projects is the mobile game Diablo: Immortal. In addition, Blizzard has confirmed that multiple Diablo projects are underway. However, these have not yet been officially announced.

Update, 12/14/2018, 3:58 PM: A post on the HotS subreddit reports that approximately 192 people will lose their jobs following the cancellation of the Heroes Global Championship. One hundred and sixty of that number are e-athletes who were employed by Blizzard.
