Former Dragon Age Creative Director Joins Ubisoft Quebec
Mike Laidlaw, former creative director at Bioware, has been hired by Ubisoft Quebec. He will hold the same position at the studio, although it is not yet known for which game. Before leaving in 2017, he was the creative director and lead designer for the Dragon Age series.
Laidlaw reports via a LinkedIn blog post that he is getting started with a game that has not yet been announced. After leaving BioWare in October 2017, he became an independent consultant. For example, he already gave advice to Ubisoft Quebec. The studio is smaller than the main studio in Montreal, but has developed Rainbow Six: Siege, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, among others.
In February 2003, Laidlaw joined BioWare as the lead writer for the Jade Empire series. Five years later, in 2008, he became the lead designer for Dragon Age: Origins and the games that followed. Between November 2017 and December 2018, he was involved in the development of The Waylanders, a Dragon Age: Origins-inspired RPG from Spanish studio Gato Salvaje. A Kickstarter campaign was set up for that, and the fundraising goal was reached on November 17.
