Samsung prototype of 5g smartphone has notch in top right corner
Samsung will show a prototype 5G smartphone at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018 with a striking notch on the top right of the screen. The chance seems small that the device will appear in that form.
It is the first time that Samsung itself shows a smartphone with a notch; the company announced in November that it was working on Infinity OLED screens with notches in the middle. The company will be demonstrating the model at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018 event in Hawaii. It is a proof-of-concept for 5G connectivity, which it has co-created with Verizon and which features a Snapdragon X50 5G NR module and antennas. On photos that on Twitter to be appeared, the 5g logo can be seen in the picture, among other things.
The most striking feature is the notch at the top right of the screen. It is also remarkable that the camera is still above the ‘notch’. Samsung has ridiculed the use of a notch in the past and all indications are that the Galaxy S10, which the company is expected to announce in early 2019, will have a hole in the screen for a dual front camera. Those cameras are on the top right.
A Samsung spokesperson told Techradar that it is a sample device and that the design is not necessarily representative of what the smartphone will eventually look like.
