South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has announced a strategic partnership with Vodafone. This means that the new infotainment systems, which will be released in the course of 2019, can use the telecom provider’s IoT network.

Hyundai says the European agreement with Vodafone means customers can expect comprehensive connected infotainment. Vodafone technology will be an integral part of Hyundai’s new infotainment system. This allows drivers to access, for example, live traffic information and diagnostic data about the vehicle.

In addition, all functions can be operated by means of voice commands. Hyundai reports that the new system works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and that users can continue to use apps on their smartphones.

According to Jungsik Suh, a vice president of Hyundai Motor Group, the partnership means that much more can be offered in terms of connectivity than is currently the case. The system will be available in new Hyundai models sometime in 2019.
