Bethesda Responds to Complaints About Fallout 76 Beta

Fallout 76 developer Bethesda has responded to many of the most common feedbacks on the game’s recent beta. There will be no fov slider, ultrawide support will only follow after the release and push-to-talk will be added after all.

The rationale for the lack of a fov slider is that it’s “known for breaking animations and causing clipping issues,” a spokesperson said in a Reddit post. Reddit users report below this post that they are very dissatisfied with this position. According to them, it’s not just about being able to see more of the game world, but the 80-degree fov in the beta even caused users to suffer from motion sickness.

Bethesda notes that the fov slider has never been in its RPGs, although in previous games it was always possible to adjust the fov with a console command. With Fallout 76 it is in principle also possible to adjust the setting manually, but it turned out to have a strong tendency to jump back on its own during the beta. It is unclear whether it will be possible to change the setting manually via the console after release.

As far as push-to-talk is concerned, Bethesda has been turned down by the deluge of responses. Previously, the developer wanted the microphone to be only on voice activation, so that everything a player said was automatically shared with nearby players. However, players complained en masse that this leads to having to listen to crying babies, televisions and barking dogs in the background. Push-to-talk will be added sometime ‘in the near future’.

Several players also complained about the graphics settings in the game. Thanks to post-aa, depth of field, and aggressive motion blur, players found it difficult to see things properly in the game. These options were not customizable in the beta and Bethesda has not yet commented on this. Again, adjusting the settings via the console or the settings.ini file will not have a lasting effect.

Furthermore, in the post, Bethesda covers increasing the stash, which it will be doing sometime after release. In addition, the existence of multiple bugs is acknowledged and the studio will correct them before or after release. The studio previously warned players that the game would contain more bugs than might have been expected, given the limited experience with online games. Fallout 76 comes out on November 14 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows.
