Users Report Major Problems With Geforce RTX 2080 Ti GPUs
On the Nvidia forum, but also on Reddit for example, users report Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti video cards that break, cause artifacts or cause significant instability.
The reports on the Nvidia forum are mainly about the Founders Editions of the Geforce GTX 2080 Ti, but there are also reports of problems with RTX 2080 Ti cards from manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte and EVGA. The problems mentioned range from computer crashes, graphics artifacts, to instances of the video card that break down completely. On Reddit, a user reports that he returned his broken RTX 2080 Ti and that the new, replacement card again caused insurmountable problems.
The users who complain about the problems regularly report that they have not overclocked their problematic copies of the RTX 2080 Ti. The problems seem to mainly concern the Founders Edition, but that can probably be explained by the fact that this version is currently the best available worldwide and is therefore probably the best-selling version of the RTX 2080 Ti.
It is not clear what is causing the problems. In theory it could be driver problems. Also, during peak times, the cards may require more power than the recommended 650W power supplies can handle. Tyrone Tech previously speculated that Nvidia shipped the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti with faulty gddr6 memory. Poor or unstable memory is often the cause of graphics artifacts and problems with artifacts are frequently mentioned in the various posts on the forums.
Update 17:34: Nvidia tells Tom’s Hardware that the problems are ‘not widely distributed’ and that a solution is being sought individually with each user. The manufacturer does not provide details about the cause.
