Enable iOS 12 automatic updates
Do you ever forget to install a new iOS update on your iPhone or iPad? Do not forget to update one more time. Because in iOS 12, the latest version of the operating system, you will now find an option that ensures that updates are automatically downloaded and installed in the future. For example, you can set automatic updates in iOS 12.
iOS 12 turns on automatic updates
The new Automatic Updates feature can be found in the following location:
- Open the Settings app. Go to ‘General> Software update> Automatic updates’
- Make sure that the switch behind ‘Automatic updates’ is green.
If an iOS update is involved, it will be automatically downloaded and installed in the future. This happens at night and when your iPhone or iPad is hanging on the charger and connected to a Wi-Fi network. You will receive a notification in advance announcing that the update will be installed, and afterward, you will also receive a notification.
Automatic app updates
The above function only concerns iOS updates. This is therefore independent of the automatic updating of apps. But apps from the App Store can also be automatically updated. That function is in a different location: go to ‘Settings> iTunes and App Store’ and set the switch behind ‘Updates’ to green.
