Sony: Changing PSN ID will be possible on PS4 in early 2019
Sony has announced that early next year it will be possible to change a chosen Online ID on the PlayStation Network on the PlayStation 4, but that not all games will support this. Sony is testing the feature in a preview phase, which will start soon.
In an announcement, Sony said the preview will be available to users who have signed up as beta testers for PS4 software. Changing the ID is possible through the settings menu or the profile on the console. Participants can make as many name changes as they want during the preview, but only the first one is free. After that, each change costs 9.99 euros. PlayStation Plus members pay a lower price of 4.99 euros. Users can choose to continue displaying their new ID next to the old one, according to Sony.
Not all games support a changed PSN ID. Games released after April 1 this year will support the feature, as will “the most played games released before that date,” according to Sony. It’s unclear what happens if a game doesn’t support changes, the announcement only talks about “issues or errors” that can occasionally occur.
Most problems would be solved by going back to an old id. Sony is coming before the feature is officially available in 2019, with a list of compatible games released before April 1. The preview will run until the end of November and will start ‘soon’.
