Hyperion Entertainment has released a major update to AmigaOS in the form of version 3.1.4, a release that the Amiga scene has been looking forward to for a while. The release is based on version 3.1 of the operating system.

Hyperion announced in an announcement that the new version is “another major update as version 3.9” and that version 3.1.4 “surpasses that variant in stability and robustness.” Version 3.9 was developed by another party, Haage & Partner, and was released in 2000. Hyperion obtained the rights to further develop AmigaOS in 2009 after a settlement with Amiga, including the rights to version 3.1.4 and future versions. The new release, which can be bought for a mere 25 to 30 euros, is intended for 68K machines and contains many bug fixes, according to Hyperion. In addition, for example, support has been added for larger storage media and there is a new Workbench. The company has published an extensive FAQ about the 3.1.4 release, which addresses many questions. Among other things, the question whether there are easter eggs in it, which according to Hyperion is not the case “because humor is foreign to them” and it is not Easter either.

The question of whether more releases are planned is also answered. For example, there will be fixes for bugs introduced in the new release and further development depends on the wishes of users. The first version of AmigaOS was introduced by Commodore in 1985, along with the Amiga 1000 which had a Motorola 68000 CPU.
