Stable version of macOS Mojave comes out

The stable version of macOS Mojave has been released. The new version of Apple’s operating system for desktops and laptops includes improvements to the desktop, Finder and introduces a dark mode.

The release of Mojave comes as no surprise, as Apple already said Mojave would be released now when it announced the new iPhones and Apple Watch Series 4. Mojave is available for all 2012 and later Mac products and 2010 and 2012 Mac Pros with appropriate graphics cards.

The new version of macOS includes a dark mode, Apple says. The operating system also has a new version of Safari that prevents tracking by fingerprinting. Safari also shows a notification if, for example, Facebook tries to track the user via a Like button. In addition, the desktop supports ‘stacks’ of files and the wallpaper can adapt to the time of day.

Mojave also includes the first apps that Apple has ported from iOS. This is done via Marzipan, the code name for the integration of UIKit for iOS in macOS. Developers won’t officially be able to port iOS apps to macOS until next year, but unofficially developers are already doing that. Apple has also ported the Stocks and Notes apps in macOS that way. Apple announced macOS 10.14 Mojave in early June at its WWDC developer conference. The operating system was also immediately released as a beta for developers.
