Ubisoft Completely Skips Steam With Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the newest member of the Ghost Recon family, isn’t coming to Steam at all. The previous two major releases from Ubisoft were still available for pre-order via Steam, but that is not the case with this game. The game is on the Epic Games Store and uPlay.
Ubisoft games Anno 1800 and The Division 2 were available for pre-order on Steam until their release, but were no longer available for purchase after that. Steam buyers will of course still be able to download and play those games, despite further sales going through uPlay and the Epic Games Store. Ghost Recon Breakpoint now takes that a step further: the game has nothing to do with Steam from the start. Ubisoft confirms this to PCGamesN.
It is not clear what exactly Ubisoft’s plans are when it comes to distribution. In March, Epic Games announced that the partnership with Ubisoft will continue and that several games would appear in the Epic Games store. At least there’s nothing on Ubisoft’s Steam publisher page under the “upcoming releases” heading.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the successor to Wildlands and the character Nomad from that game makes his return. The action game will be released on October 4 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set on the fictional archipelago of Auroa, where the research complex of the also fictional tech billionaire Jace Skell is located. The US military discovers suspicious activity and sends Nomad to investigate. Nomad’s mission quickly turns into a survival fight when his helicopter is shot from the sky, leaving him alone on the team. The facility appears to have been taken over by The Wolves, a group of Ghosts who are taking a hostile attitude.
