Epic Games has released patch 5.40 for Fortnite after a day’s delay. The patch marks the start of the High Stakes event, adds the Grappler and provides some bug fixes. On Android there will be support for voice chats.

The High Stakes event revolves around the Getaway Limited Time Mode. This involves teams of four players trying to find and open one of four hidden vaults to be the first to take the Jewel from the vault to a Getaway Van.

Furthermore, patch 5.40 ensures the presence of the Grappler. With this grappling hook, the player can move quickly and by linking several grappling actions, he can bridge large distances. At the same time, some items have been removed, such as the Common Suppressed Submachine Gun, the Rare Rocket Launcher, and the Legendary Bolt-action Sniper Rifle.

The update also brings changes on mobile. For example, the support for voip has been added on Android and there is now support for the Essential Phone and devices from Motorola, HTC and Sony. In addition, there are memory optimizations for Android devices with Adreno GPU. On Android, the game is still in beta and will be provided outside the Play Store.

Epic Games has listed all changes with a number of bug fixes.
