Honor announces phone with 7.12″ screen

Huawei subsidiary Honor has announced the 8X Max, its first smartphone with 7.12″ LCD. The display has a teardrop-shaped notch at the top of the screen and has a 19:9 ratio.

The 7.12″ screen has a resolution of 2244×1080 pixels, according to the product page. This brings the display to 349 pixels per inch. The screen displays 16:9 content on a surface of up to 6.3″. The bezel at the top and bottom comes out at 14mm, while the one at the sides comes out at around 8mm. This makes the bezels approximately equal to those of many other smartphones.

The phone measures 178x86mm and has a thickness of 8.1mm. The housing contains a battery with a capacity of 5000mAh. The device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636-soc with eight Kryo processor cores at a maximum of 1.8GHz and an Adreno 509 GPU. The device has 4GB lpddr3 memory and 64GB emmc storage. The Snapdragon soc stands out, because Huawei usually uses its own Kirin socs in its smartphones and only few models equips with a soc from Qualcomm.

The Honor 8X Max will be released in China for a price of 1499 yuan, which is currently about 188 euros. It is unknown if and when the device will be released in China. Honor also announced the 8X, a smaller variant with a 6.5-inch screen and Kirin 710-soc.
