OnePlus has announced that its open beta of OxygenOS based on Android Pie is available for the OnePlus 6. The company has not yet disclosed information about the release date of a stable version.

In the announcement, OnePlus writes that the beta will include a new Android 9 interface, along with the gesture control feature. In addition, a renewed Do Not Disturb mode and gaming mode are part of the release. As with all beta versions, there is a chance of problems. OnePlus therefore warns that certain apps can no longer work, that Google Pay no longer functions and that the Play Store shows a warning that the device is not certified by Google.

Two weeks ago, a OnePlus employee said the open beta release would follow in a few days, but that deadline has been exceeded. Ultimately, the company wants to release Android Pie for its 5 and 5T devices. In June, OnePlus said that the 3 and 3T will also be upgraded to the latest Android version.

Google officially announced Android 9 in early August and made the new version of the mobile OS available for its Pixel phones. It promised that devices participating in the beta program would receive the upgrade before the end of the fall, including the OnePlus 6. Huawei also recently started a public beta of its Emui skin for Android.
