Iconic Motorola RAZR makes a comeback as a very expensive smartphone (video)
The Motorola RAZR, the iconic ‘clamshell’ phone that became extremely popular 15 years ago, is back. Motorola unveiled a new version today, which features a foldable 6.2-inch OLED screen.
In January this year it appeared that Motorola had applied for a patent for the new RAZR. And now the time has really come: the RAZR makes its comeback, but then as a modern (and expensive) smartphone. The small display and the T9 keyboard have been replaced by a large, 6.18-inch foldable ‘Flex View’ OLED screen with a resolution of 876 x 2,142 pixels. Just like on the old model, there is also a second screen for when the device is closed. That is now a 2.7-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. On this screen you can, among other things, view notifications and read your messages.
The RAZR runs on Android 9 Pie and has a Snapdragon 710 processor, 6GB memory, 128GB storage capacity, a 16-megapixel camera, a 5 megapixel selfiecamera and two batteries (one in each half) with a total capacity of 2,510 mAh. That battery capacity, compared to other smartphones, is not really something to write home about, but according to Motorola, it is enough for a full day. Moreover, the RAZR comes with a 15W ‘TurboCharger’, with which you can charge the device quickly. The ‘chin’ of the RAZR contains a fingerprint scanner and a USB-C port.
Although there is a selfie camera on the ‘inside’ of the RAZR, you do not necessarily need it for taking selfies. You can also use the 16-megapixel main camera on the ‘outside’ for this in combination with the second display.
The Motorola RAZR is available from December. In the United States, the price becomes $ 1,500. How much the device will cost in Europe is not yet known.
