Samsung starts sales of curved monitor with Thunderbolt 3

Samsung is launching three new curved monitors in its QLED series, one of which has two Thunderbolt 3 ports. The CJ79 is a 34″ screen with a resolution of 3440×1440 pixels.

The C34J791 has an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a curvature of 1500R. In addition to the two USB-c connections with Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, displayport and two USB 3.0 ports are present. Thunderbolt 3 offers a maximum throughput of 40Gbit/s and the CJ79 delivers 85W of power to power external devices such as laptops. The response time is 4ms and the refresh rate is 100Hz.

In addition, Samsung releases the C43J89 and C49J890. The C43J89 has a 43″ screen with 3840×1200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 32:10 and the C49J890 is larger with its 49″ screen, but has a lower pixel density with 3840×1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 32:9. These have a curvature of 1800R. The response time is 5ms and with the 43″ monitor the refresh rate is 120Hz; with the 49″ variant it is 144Hz. These monitors in the QLED C series do not have Thunderbolt 3, but HDMI, displayport, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 are present.

The three new monitors have a VA panel with a maximum screen brightness of 300cd/m² and an advertised contrast ratio of 3000:1. Samsung announced the models at the beginning of this year at CES, but sales are now starting, ahead of the IFA electronics fair in Berlin. The European market is the first to do this.

The C34J791 with Thunderbolt 3 is now offered at online stores in the Benelux for suggested retail prices of around 1000 euros. The C43J89 is offered for the same prices and the C49J890 is a bit cheaper with its lower resolution: that price is about 900 euros.
