Forza Horizon 4 gets HDR support and recommended specs for 60fps on PC
Benjamin Penrose of the developer Playground Games said at the Gamescom fair that Forza Horizon 4 will get HDR support on the PC. In addition, the recommended specifications are based on the assumption of 60 instead of 30 frames per second.
Penrose, the art director at Playground Games, told PC Gamer that the change to the 60fps premise is a change from Forza Horizon 3. He reports that there will also be a slew of new options to push the PC “to the limit.” to float” with graphics settings that can exceed ultra. What exactly he was referring to is still unknown.
The starting point of 60fps for the as-yet-unknown recommended specs is striking, partly because Ralph Fulton of PlayGround Games told Kotaku that the minimum system requirements are lower than those of Forza Horizon 3. How much lower is still unclear, but if that is correct then the new game probably very well optimized.
According to Penrose, the development team is very satisfied with the stability and performance of the game. He states that much was learned from Forza Horizon 3, a title that he admits things weren’t as smooth as they could have been. There have been several problems since the release, but according to him, a lot of time has now been spent not making the same mistakes with Forza Horizon 4.
The racing game will be the first Forza Horizon title on PC to include support for high dynamic range. Penrose did not provide further details. Forza Horizon 3 received a patch after its release on Xbox One that added HDR support, but it was not released for PC.
Forza Horizon 4 will continue to receive dynamic weather and seasons and will be released on October 2 for PC and Xbox One. The game will get on the Xbox One X a 1080p setting in combination with 60 fps, or a 4k option with 30 fps.
