Canon will release its bright 85mm f/1.2 lens for mirrorless full-frame cameras at the end of June. The lens is equipped with a so-called BR lens element that should prevent chromatic aberrations.

The 85mm f/1.2L is Canon’s first RF lens with Blue Spectrum Refractive optics. Canon has used such a BR element in a number of EF lenses before. According to Canon, the element consists of an organic optical material and is positioned between a concave and a convex lens element. The optical design consists of a total of thirteen lens elements in nine groups and the diaphragm has nine blades. Canon recommends the lens for portrait and wedding photography.

The weight of the RF 85mm f/1.2L is 1.2kg and the dimensions are 103x117mm. The housing is sealed against moisture and dust and on the front is a thread for 82mm filters. The bright 85mm lens is made for Canon’s mirrorless cameras, which have been the EOS R and the EOS RP to date. The suggested retail price is EUR 3,050.
