Amazon has added “Spanish for Americans” to its Skills Kit for Alexa. This allows developers to create applications for the Hispanic community in the United States. The Spanish voice assistant will be available to the general public later this year.

Spanish for Americans is the third Spanish voice model Amazon is adding to its Skills Kit. Applications have been developed for users in Spain and Mexico for some time. After Mexico, the US has the second largest concentration of Spanish speakers in the world with 48.6 million people.

The Spanish-language version of voice assistant Alexa will roll out in all three markets at about the same time later this year. It will be the seventh language Alexa can master, after English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese.

Amazon also says that the Spanish-language voice assistant will not only be available on Echo devices, but also on devices from other manufacturers. According to the e-commerce giant, Bose, Sony and Facebook, among others, will launch products with built-in Alexa support later this year. Philips, TP Link and Honeywell Home would in turn work on ‘Works with Alexa’ devices that can handle Spanish for Americans.
