AOC will release 28″-4k monitor with 144Hz panel in August for 739 euros

AOC presents the U28G2XU; a 28″ monitor with an IPS panel and a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The screen has a refresh rate of 144Hz, FreeSync Premium Pro support and a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certificate. The monitor does not have HDMI 2.1.

According to AOC, the U28G2XU monitor has a gray-to-gray response time of 1ms. The stated brightness for the entire screen is 370cd/m², but the peak brightness goes to a minimum of 400cd/m². The contrast ratio is 1000:1, which is common for IPS monitors. According to the manufacturer, the panel can display 98.8 percent of the DCI-P3 color space.

The screen has AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support with a range of 48 to 144Hz. There is also support for Nvidia’s G-Sync Compatible implementation. AOC provides the monitor with two HDMI 2.0 connections and two DisplayPort 1.4 ports. Due to the lack of HDMI 2.1, it is not possible to use the monitor in combination with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in 4k at 120Hz. If the display is linked to these consoles via HDMI, that’s up to 1440p at 120Hz or 4k at 60Hz.

The AOC U27GXU has a height-adjustable base and the screen is tiltable. The monitor will be released in August for a suggested retail price of 739 euros. This makes the AOC screen one of the cheapest 4k-144Hz monitors at the moment. Gigabyte offers a similar model for 699 euros, LG and Acer have 27″ monitors with similar specifications that cost around 900 euros. Samsung will release the Odyssey G7 G28AG70 in July for 799 euros. That is also a 4k-144Hz monitor, but this IPS screen does have HDMI 2.1.
