Motorola presents its first phone with a notch in the screen

Motorola has presented its first smartphone with a notch in the screen. The Motorola p30 has a display with a diagonal of 6.2 “and a ratio of 19: 9. It is a midrange smartphone for the Chinese market.

The Motorola p30 is the first with the letter ‘p’ in front of the name and it is a device with a glass back, according to the product page. The color scheme, which goes from blue to purple, is reminiscent of a variant of the Huawei P20 Pro, while the shape of the notch is reminiscent of the iPhone X.

The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636-soc with eight Kryo 260 cores at up to 2.6GHz and an Adreno 509 GPU. Motorola does 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.

The phone measures 156x76x7.7mm and weighs around 170 grams. The screen is an LCD with a resolution of 2246×1080 pixels and a diagonal of 6.2″. On the back is a dual camera, both from Omnivision. The primary camera is an OV16B10, a 1/2.76″ sensor with 1 pixels. .12 microns in size. Motorola places a lens for this with an aperture of f/1.8. Focusing is done with phase detection. The secondary camera is a five-megapixel camera, presumably to estimate depth before blurring the background. The front camera has a resolution of twelve megapixels, with pixels of 1.25 microns in size and a lens in front with an aperture of f/2.0.

The Motorola p30 costs from 2099 yuan for the cheapest version, currently converted about 267 euros. Whether and when such a Motorola device will be released in Europe is unknown. Motorola’s parent company Lenovo has previously presented a phone with a notch, the Z5.
