Nvidia is holding an event in Cologne on August 20, a day before the start of the Gamescom fair. The manufacturer says it will come up with ‘spectacular surprises’. The manufacturer may show a new GeForce video card during the event.

Nvidia has posted a registration form for the event on its website. The manufacturer will give demos of new games and developers will hold presentations. There will also be ‘some spectacular surprises’. With this, Nvidia could hint at the introduction of a new series of video cards. The first cards in the current GTX 10 series were announced more than two years ago.

Rumor has it that the next video card will be the GTX 1180, the name of which was mentioned by a Lenovo employee. Gigabyte previously indicated that new Nvidia GPUs for laptops are expected at the end of this year. The variants for laptops usually follow the introduction of video cards for desktops. Since the GTX 10-series, the laptop variants are almost equal to the desktop GPUs.

Presumably the new video cards will use gddr6 memory. Samsung and Micron started mass production of the video memory this year. A photo of a test PCB from Nvidia also appeared on which gddr6 can be seen.

The CEO of Nvidia indicated in June that a new generation of GeForce cards will only come “in a long time”. However, he did not provide more concrete information about an appearance period. If Nvidia shows a new video card on August 20, it could be that it will take a while before it actually comes on the market.
