Number of active Facebook users in Europe is decreasing
The number of active Facebook users is declining in Europe. This is evident from the quarterly figures of the social network. In the past quarter, 279 million Europeans logged in daily, compared to 282 million in the previous quarter.
The decrease is also visible in the number of monthly active users in Europe. That was 376 million, slightly less than the 377 million a quarter earlier. Europe is the only continent where the use of Facebook is declining. In Asia, the US and the rest of the world there is still an upward trend in the figures. In the past quarter, there were 1.47 billion daily active users and 2.23 billion monthly active users.
Although the number of users worldwide is still growing, the growth is lower than in previous quarters. The number of monthly active users increased by 1.54 percent, compared to 3.14 percent in the previous quarter.
The declining use and reduced growth are not reflected in the financial results. Facebook had quarterly revenue of $13.2 billion, of which $13 billion came from advertising. The vast majority of revenue comes from ads viewed on mobile devices, which is now 91 percent. A year ago it was 87 percent.
Revenue in the past quarter was 42 percent higher than in the comparable quarter a year earlier. Earnings came in at $5.1 billion, 31 percent higher than last year.
