IKEA has started distributing the update that adds support for Apple’s HomeKit to the Trådfri Connection Hub for smart outlets. The update is available immediately in the US; the rest of the world will follow next week.

IKEA confirms the update’s arrival on Reddit, with an apology for taking so long to release. Actually, the update was supposed to appear in October last year, but IKEA had to postpone it several times. The update causes the gateway firmware to move from version 1.4.15 to 1.8.25 and for the wireless plug-in socket to get version number 2.0.022. Users can check this in their IKEA Trådfri app.

American users have already managed to make the smart sockets appear in their HomeKit Home app, including Homekitnews. The integration with HomeKit gives users the option to switch the sockets on and off via the Home app and Siri.

Support for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa was already present. It is not known whether the update also adds support for Hue Bridge. IKEA started selling smart sockets in the Benelux last September.
