New Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 versions with Amber Lake CPUs appear online verschijnen
Several Dell websites list versions of the XPS 13 2-in-1 with new CPUs. It concerns the Core i5-8200Y and the Core i7-8500Y, which are presumably the frugal Amber Lake CPUs that Intel has not yet announced.
The new versions of Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1 are listed on the Chilean Dell website and on the page for the Cayman Islands, among others. Dell mentions a model with the Core i5-8200Y, which has a clock speed of up to 3.9GHz. A variant with the Core i7-8500Y has a clock speed of up to 4.2GHz.
The mentioned speeds for the economical Y processors are the maximum turbo speeds. The speed is probably a lot lower when using all cores. According to WikiChip, it would be 1.3GHz for the i5 and 1.5GHz for the i7. Both processors are dual cores with HyperThreading, with a TDP of 5 watts.
Intel has not officially announced the Core i5-8200Y and Core i7-8500Y yet. However, the processor manufacturer has announced that laptops with Amber Lake processors will appear in the fall. Amber Lake is the successor to Kaby Lake-Y and the processors that Dell mentions probably fall under the new line. Dell is also putting Y processors in its current XPS 13 2-in-1 models, such as the Core i7-7Y75 and the i5-7Y57.
Dell released its XPS 13 2-in-1 in early 2017. No new versions have been released since then. It is not yet clear to what extent the new models change compared to the first versions. It may just be a processor replacement.
