Photo unannounced DJI Mavic 2 drone emerges
A photo has surfaced online of the Mavic 2, which is likely to be the successor to DJI’s Mavic Pro drone. The unannounced drone may be given the ability to observe objects in 360 degrees so that they can be avoided.
The photo in question came into the hands of the website DroneDJ, which did not mention its source. The image clearly shows that DJI is going to call the new drone Mavic 2 and according to the website this is the successor to the Mavic Pro. What is notable is that the device has front and side cameras that are probably intended for detecting obstacles. DroneDJ speculates that those cameras can also be found on the top and back, so there should be obstacle awareness in 360 degrees.
It is also striking that DJI has slightly adjusted the design of the drone compared to the Mavic Pro. The new Mavic 2 should be more aerodynamic, plus it appears that the gimbal should be removable, potentially allowing users to switch between different cameras.
Because DJI has not yet announced anything about the new drone, the final list of specifications is missing. It is also not yet clear when the manufacturer wants to announce the Mavic 2. Initially, the company had planned to make a product announcement on July 18, but that was recently postponed.
