Samsung and Apple settle iPhone copying lawsuit after seven years
Samsung and Apple have settled the lawsuit in which Apple accuses Samsung of copying the iPhone after seven years. It is unknown why just now the two warring parties have reached an agreement.
Samsung and Apple have informed the court in a joint document that they have come out and that the lawsuit does not have to continue. Both companies only announce that they will pay their own legal costs, but whether one of the parties will pay the other in addition is unknown.
The case was already declining in scale. Until a few years ago, Samsung and Apple had lawsuits against each other in dozens of countries, but stopped in 2014. Only the original case in the United States continued.
The settlement ends the Northern California District Court 11-cv-01846 lawsuit after seven years. Apple accused Samsung of copying the iPhone 3GS with the first Galaxy S in terms of housing design and software appearance. Apple is now engaged in a new battle, namely with chip maker Qualcomm. Samsung has always remained a supplier of iPhone parts, most recently the OLED screen in the iPhone X.
