Microsoft pulls Sets feature for tabs in apps from Windows Insider builds
Microsoft has removed the Sets feature from the Windows Insider build. The feature will return in a new series of Insider builds at a later date. The move means the tabbed feature isn’t ready for release this fall.
The latest Insider build no longer includes the feature, as Microsoft wants to make improvements first, the company reports. The Sets feature will return later, when the system works better with Office files and browser Edge, Microsoft says. That will happen in a subsequent batch of Insider builds and will most likely come before next year’s Windows release.
Sets will therefore probably not be included in this fall’s Windows update, which is still known under the codename Redstone 5. Sets has been in Insider builds since the end of November last year. The tabs are an extension to the current tab system in Microsoft Edge. For example, an Explorer tab might open next to a Notepad tab, followed by an Edge tab.
Microsoft has released an update for Windows 10 twice a year in recent years. The first release is in the spring, followed by one in the fall. In addition, it has stopped promising when a feature will come in Windows 10.
