Microsoft acquires classroom video platform

Microsoft has acquired Flipgrid. Flipgrid is developing a service for the educational market that allows students and students to publish videos on topics at the classroom level.

Microsoft has immediately integrated Flipgrid into Microsoft Teams in Office 365 for Education. In addition, Microsoft is making Flipgrid free for schools; educational institutions that have already created a paid account can get money back.

The educational service will remain available under its own name and the existing team will be retained. In addition, the company emphasizes that the service will continue to work on Chromebooks, iPads, iPhones and Android devices, just as it does on Windows PCs.

Flipgrid is a social media service that allows teachers to create grids, which are a kind of networks of pupils and students, who can respond to topics suggested by the teacher, including short videos.

The acquisition is part of Microsoft’s strategy to target the educational market. The company offers, among other things, the free Office 365 Education and Minecraft: Education Edition.
