IRobot releases Roomba robot vacuum cleaners with smarthome integration for 350 euros

Vacuum cleaner manufacturer iRobot has announced the Roomba 671, 675 and 676. These three robot vacuum cleaners are compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, allowing users to control the devices via voice commands, among other things. They will cost 350 euros.

Users can use voice control to switch on, pause and return the robot vacuums to the charging station. The smarthome integration does not seem to go much further. IRobot only mentions support for Alexa and Google Home. Like, for example, the existing, no longer available Roomba 690 and 890, the three new vacuum cleaners are equipped with WiFi and can be operated and set up with an accompanying app.

For example, the app allows to set schedules and allow users to view where the vacuum cleaners have cleaned, what the cleaning performance is and where most of the dirt has been removed. When starting and closing the cleaning sessions, the app can automatically send a message to the user’s smartphone.

IRobot has equipped the new vacuum cleaners with technology that automatically recognizes those parts of the house where the most dirt and dust is. In addition, the vacuum cleaners can detect what kind of floor surfaces they are dealing with, on which the height of the vacuum cleaner is adjusted. Difficult points in the house such as stairs and other height differences that can lead to a fall of the vacuum cleaners are automatically avoided.

The vacuum cleaners are equipped with sensors that avoid obstacles and allow the devices to remember where they are. According to the manufacturer, the vacuum cleaners make sixty decisions per second. If the battery runs out during a vacuuming session, the vacuum cleaner automatically goes to the charging station to finish the job.

It is not clear what the differences are between the three devices. The new Roomba 600 series vacuum cleaners will be available from June 20th and will have a suggested retail price of 350 euros.
