Ubisoft unveiled a narrative horror game at E3: Transference. It’s basically a psychological thriller that tries to bridge the gap between movies and games. Players must try to find out exactly what happened in a family’s house.

Transference revolves around exploring the memories of a tormented person’s mind. The story is about a confused scientist, his wife and their son; players must try to figure out exactly what happened in the family home by solving puzzles and searching for clues. Both the game part and the movie part play with the truth, with real actors partly taking the story further.

The game is not an RPG and revolves around an obsessive experiment by the scientist, in which he has created a dark digital simulation based on the collective brain data of all family members. The trailer shows the father apologizing to his son for not being a good father or husband, but soon everyone will be brought back together. Players can enter this simulation, but also get to hear the story from the perspective of each of the three family members.

Transference is a collaboration between Ubisoft Montreal and SpectreVision; the latter is a studio founded by Hollywood actor Elijah Wood, among others. The game will not only be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but also for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the PlayStation VR. Ubisoft has not yet announced an exact release date, but the game should be released sometime in the fall of this year.
