Google has put online a list of principles that it wants to adhere to when developing artificial intelligence. One is that the company does not want to develop surveillance equipment with artificial intelligence.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai says the company is committed to adhering to the principles in the development of artificial intelligence. Below that is the previously announced rule not to use AI technology for weapons. In addition, Google does not make AI applications that generally do harm and tools that aim to violate human rights.

It is the first time that the search company has revealed its ethical rules in the field of artificial intelligence development. The ethics of AI is an important topic, because with the development of self-driving cars and other applications, the role of artificial intelligence is increasing, while scientists warn that algorithms cannot be neutral.

The rules come online in response to the internal outcry over cooperation with the US military. In April, a large number of Google employees protested against the development of AI technology for the US military in a letter to CEO Sundar Pichai. The employees thought that Google should stay far away from this.
