Razer to supply its mechanical switches to third parties
The manufacturer of game products Razer will also supply its self-designed mechanical switches for game keyboards to other manufacturers. In addition, the company opens its Chrome lighting for a link with manufacturers from other parties.
Razer will ship its mechanical switches to a small selection of partners for keyboard use later this year. Razer does not disclose which companies these are. More third parties should follow by the end of this year. The company will supply its Green Switches as well as the quieter Orange Switches and Yellow models with 1.2mm activation point to other keyboard manufacturers. So far, the switches are only present in Razer’s own BlackWidow keyboards.
Consumers can also purchase the Razer switches separately later this year, for example to make their own keyboard. By entering the market with its switches, the company is competing with the Cherry and Kailh switches, among others. However, more and more keyboard manufacturers are developing their own switches, such as Roccat, Logitech and HP.
Razer also opens the api of its Chroma software for RGB lighting. Partners of the company can thus make their products suitable for synchronization with Chroma. MSI, NZXT, AMD, Thermaltake, Lian Li and Gigabyte will do that, among others. The first products from those manufacturers with Razer Chroma support will appear in the fourth quarter of 2018.
