Asus announces ROG Strix Scar II and Hero II laptops with 144Hz display – update

Asus announced the successors to its Scar and Hero gaming laptops from the ROG Strix series at Computex. The new laptops are equipped with Coffee Lake processors and have screens with a higher refresh rate than their predecessors.

The Scar and Hero laptops are very similar, but there are subtle differences that show what the laptops are for. The Hero II is intended for moba gamers and features separate Q, W, E and R keys, while the Scar II is intended for shooters and therefore has special W, A, S and D keys is provided.

Hero II

It is not yet known what precise specifications the laptops will have in the Benelux, but at least a Coffee Lake processor will be included and that will be a quadcore i5-8300H or a hexacore i7-8750H. The CPU is combined with a maximum of 32GB DDR4 at 2666MT/s speed. Asus supplies the Hero and the Scar with a GTX 1060 video card, but there is also a GTX 1070 option exclusively for the Scar II. The 15.6″ screen on the laptops has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, a matte finish and a refresh rate of 60 or 144Hz. Asus can supply various NVME SSDs and hybrid hard drives for storage.

SCAR II

The laptops are equipped with two USB 3.1 Gen1 and two USB 3.1 Gen2 connections, including a USB-C copy. Furthermore, a mini displayport 1.2 and an HDMI 2.0 connection are available. An SD card reader and a regular Ethernet connection complete the connections. The Scar II will be available in the Benelux from next week for a price starting at 2100 euros. The Hero II will be available at the end of June from 1800 euros.
