Company demonstrates smartphone screens with local dimming and hole for camera
Screen manufacturer Tianma has developed a 6.46″ LCD with HDR that has 286 local dimming zones and a peak brightness of 1000cd/m2. The company also showed a smartphone screen with a hole in the top left corner for the camera.
The 6.46″ LCD from Tianma has a resolution of 1440×2880 pixels. With its peak brightness of 1000cd/m² and support for local dimming, the maximum contrast is claimed to be 3,000,000:1 locally. 10-bit screen that can display 96 percent of the NTSC color space. The manufacturer expects to be able to produce the smartphone screen only in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The manufacturer demonstrated the screen during Display Week 2018, where the company also showed an LCD screen with local dimming for car dashboards. In addition, the company showed a 6.21″ screen that had a hole in the top left corner, where smartphone manufacturers can place the front camera, to avoid the need for a larger notch at the top. The screen has a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. The thickness of the bezel is 0.6mm at the top, 3mm at the bottom and 0.5mm at the sides, writes the Chinese MyDrivers.
Tianma is an LCD manufacturer that was established in 2013 as a joint venture between Shanghai AVIC Optoelectronics and NLT Technologies. The company initially focused on the industrial market, but now seems to be looking to the consumer market.
