Samsung begins mass production of 32GB DDR4 memory for laptops
Samsung has started mass production of 32GB DDR4 memory modules in the so-dimm format for laptops. According to the manufacturer, these are the first so-dimm modules with this capacity.
Samsung makes the memory modules in a ’10nm-class format’, so the exact process is unknown. Presumably it concerns 14nm, but the designation 10nm-class can mean anything between 10 and 19nm. The memory can run up to 2666Mbit/s, 11 percent more than the 2400Mbit/s of its predecessor from 2014.
Samsung claims that the power consumption in active use is 39 percent lower than with current 16GB DDR4 memory for laptops, while it would require 25 percent less power when inactive. The 32GB modules consist of 16 times 16Gb of memory strips. The so-dimm memory is intended for gaming laptops. It is unknown when the first models with the memory will appear.
