John Bain, better known as TotalBiscuit and the Cynical Brit, died Thursday from the effects of cancer. Bain is 33 years old. He gained fame in the gaming community with his YouTube channel, among other things.

Bain’s death is announced on his Twitter account. The Briton announced in 2014 that he had been diagnosed with cancer and that he was undergoing chemotherapy. A year later, he reported that his illness was terminal, but he continued to work long after.

Bain gained fame with Warcraft Radio from 2005, after which he focused more broadly on discussing game-related matters on his website Cynicalbrit.com. In 2010, he started a YouTube channel, which became part of the game network Polaris and which grew into a popular medium with more than two million subscribers.

In particular, casting games like StarCraft II and PlanetSide 2, discussing indie games, and his support for consumer protection contributed to his popularity. In addition, he became a beloved e-sports commentator for Warframe, StarCraft II and League of Legends, among others.

Bain is 33 years old. He leaves behind a wife and child.
