Nintendo sells Switch without dock in Japan for lower price
Nintendo now sells its Switch console without a dock in Japan. The grip for the Joy-Con and the cord to charge the console are also missing in the cheaper version. The variant seems to be intended for households that already have a Switch and would like a second one.
Users will receive the Switch itself, two Joy-Cons and two straps for the controllers, according to Nintendo’s announcement. If you want to use the set as the first Switch, you can use a compatible USB-C charger to power the Switch’s battery. Many telephones and laptops of recent years also have USB-C.
In addition to the power cable, the box also lacks the HDMI cable to connect the Switch to a TV. Nintendo is asking 5000 yen less for the set, currently about 39 euros, with VAT a few euros more. The set without dock costs 24980 yen, compared to 29980 yen for the complete variant. That comes down to 235 euros converted and including VAT, compared to 281 euros for the version including dock.
When and whether the version without dock will be released in the Benelux is still unknown. For now, Nintendo has only announced the set for its own home country. The Switch Dock has been available separately in the Benelux since last summer.
