Politicians ask questions about privacy of facial recognition at Henschotermeer

Members of the SP and PvdA have asked the Provincial Executive how the privacy of visitors is guaranteed at the entrance to Henschotermeer. The nature reserve is working on the implementation of facial recognition as a form of entrance ticket.

The written questions were asked by Truke Noordenbos and Osman Suna, members of the SP and PvdA respectively in the Provincial Council. They want to know exactly what is being done with the data and how malicious parties can be prevented from gaining access to the data.

Until last year, the Henschotermeer was subsidized by the Province of Utrecht and was free to enter. To compensate for the disappearance of the subsidy, the nature reserve wants to charge 2.95 euros in entrance. The management tells RTV Utrecht that tickets are old-fashioned, can become damp and can be lost.

Initially, the facial recognition system would be deployed from the end of April, but the detection system would not yet work properly and access is free for a little longer. The system is expected to be activated next week.
